A goal from David Luiz made the difference when Arsenal played host to Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon.
The manager employed a team good enough to cause our opponent enough harm even though we were only able to make a narrow escape. Mesut Ozil was totally left out once again.
Team in full: Leno; Chambers, David Luiz, Sokratis, Kolasinac; Xhaka, Guendouzi, Ceballos; Saka, Aubameyang, Pepe
Subs: Martinez, Tierney, Holding, Maitland-Niles, Torreira, Martinelli
Before the opener, Aubameyang sent a curling shot wide of goal. It did not take long before we made a statement when Luiz sent in a fierce header from Nicolas Pepe's corner kick delivery.
We were close to getting a double. We weren't so lucky as Pepe's cut in and strike following a pass from Saka went over the bar.
Bournemouth started the second half on the high. In fact, they were so vibrant this time putting us under great pressure.
Their improved spirit gave way for Wilson who dribbled past our two centre defenders, rounded Leno, then fired at goal but the quick intervention of Luiz helped us remain in front.
Martinelli came on to replace Pepe. His impact was instant; the Brazilian cut in from the left and dinked the ball towards Auba but it was taken care of by the opposition defence.
Calum Chambers once again proved that he deserves to get a place in the starting lineup all week. The English international prevented a deadly counter attack towards the end. He sure will have a high rating just as Leno, Guendouzi Saka and Martinelli.
We go into the international break as the third-placed team on the Premier League table. It will be a 'no club action' period for is until we return to play Sheffield United on Monday, October 21.
