Atletico Madrid have reportedly shortlisted an Arsenal player to cover up for Antoine Griezmann who is on the verge of leaving the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
The 2018 World Cup winner has through a Netflix documentary stated his desire to continue his career at another club. Considering the calibre of player he is, his absence will create a large hole in Diego Simeon's squad which is why they have turned their sights to Alexandre Lacazette.
This will be their second attempt to get the Frenchman following their failure to do that in 2017 when a FIFA sanction
prevented them from indulging in any transfer activity. Their move to get the ban appealed failed thereby opening the way for Arsene Wenger to snap up his fellow compatriot.
Lacazette despite struggling in his opening season has been able to prove a point under Unai Emery. We have seen him deliver inspire the team in big games. No wonder he has attracted interest from some European giants.
The striker alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have established a great partnership which the club will wish to enjoy beyond this season. For this reason, it is unlikely that Atletico will succeed in completing a deal for Lacazette except maybe an unresistable offer comes in.
Arsenal will sell out some players this summer but I can't just imagine a situation whereby Lacazette will be allowed to leave at a time when all we are concerned about is building a title contending team. It is 6 even believed that the club are planning to give him an improved contract, so we can just laugh off this news of him joining Atletico Madrid or Barcelona.
