Arsenal fans have gone ruthless on Troy Deeney for the jibe he threw at them when they lost to Watford last season.
The Hornets skipper said the Gunners lack character and 'cojones' in the aftermath of their 2-1 loss at Vicarage Road under Arsene Wenger.
Deeney put his side back in the game with a converted penalty after Per Mertesacker had put the visitors ahead. Cleverly then donated the winning goal to make Arsenal leave empty-handed.
At the end of the encounter, the English striker said: “I’m not going to be one to tell Mr (Arsene) Wenger about himself, but there’s a reason that they lost and it wasn’t because of one penalty.
“I have to watch what I say, but it’s (having) a bit of cojones, is what I’ll say. Whenever I play against Arsenal, I’ll go up and think ‘let me whack the first one and see who wants it.”
Since making that piercing statement, Deeney has lost a penalty against Arsenal in the return leg of the aforementioned fixture.
He again reiterated his stand prior to his side's tie with Unai Emery's side on Monday night as he raised no regrets over his statement.
The dude was so unfortunate for an elbow challenge on Lucas Torreira which earned him a red card shortly after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang took advantage of a Ben Foster mistake to score the only goal of the night.
This was an avenue for Arsenal supporters to have their own share of the laugh and they did that so well without looking back.
October 2017 - Deeney: "Arsenal lack cojones"— Andrew Allen (@AAllenSport) April 15, 2019
March 2018 - Arsenal 3-0 Watford (clean sheet, Deeney misses pen)
September 2018 - Arsenal 2-0 Watford (clean sheet, Deeney booked)
April 2019 - Watford 0-1 Arsenal (clean sheet, Deeney sent off)
Decent team talk.
Since saying that Arsenal lack cojones, Troy Deeney has picked up zero points from a possible nine against the gunners, missed a penalty & been sent off within the first 15 minutes of the match, costing his side the game. Poetry.— Patrick Timmons (@PatrickTimmons1) April 16, 2019

Re: Troy 'Cojones' Deeney. As a journalist I always want players to give interesting quotes but he crossed the line & made it personal v Arsenal after the 2-1 defeat here at Vicarage Rd last term. And he's paid for it ever since. Missed penalty at the Emirates and now a red card— Layth (@laythy29) April 15, 2019
