Mesut Ozil came close to throwing punches with McCarthy at halftime of Arsenal's game with Everton on Tuesday night.
The German international and McCarthy had an argument while heading down the tunnel but Arsene Wenger has said that it was nothing severe after all.
The actual cause of their rift is unknown. However, Wenger feels Ozil's anger could be down to the manner in which mcCarthy made tackles.
‘I was close to it, I didn’t see a lot,’ said the Arsenal manager.
‘There was a little bit of a push but nothing dramatic.’
‘He [McCarthy] was very physical today but that’s down to the referee but I cannot interfere too much in that.
‘The referee has to make the game respected.’
Everton legend Duncan Ferguson was there at the right time to make peace between the duo. Wenger also interfered in the situation
