Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil was honoured with an award as the German Player of the Year before their game with England on Saturday night. He claimed close to half of the total votes from the poll, according to DFB
He emerged winner last month but was officially crowned before the German national team played England last night in a match which the 2014 World Cup champions lost. Ozil had an assist in that game
The former Real Madrid playmaker has been instrumental for both club [Arsenal] and country [Germany] this season and no doubt deserved the award.
Currently, Ozil has scooped up to eighteen assist in the Premier League, a feat which brings him so close to Thierry Henry's previous record of twenty assists in a season. He has slowed down on that front but is still on track to surpass that tally.
Last night was his fourth time of winning this award in the last five years. Respect!
