Arsenal will be locking horns with Southampton tonight as they hope to continue their fine league form which has put them in second spot on the table.
Ahead of their trip to St. Mary's for the Boxing Day fixture, Arsene Wenger gave a very brief update on the fitness level of his players and his revelations are as follows:
Firstly, he made it known that there are no returning players for the Southampton game and as such, the lineup will not be too different from the ones we have seen in recent weeks.
With a lot of first team players currently sidelined, the Gunners are short in number and quality. The various absentees have varying return dates. While some should be available early in the new year, others will be out for as long as two months.
Asked if Alexis Sanchez and Mikel Arteta are the closest to making returns as speculated in the media, the Frenchman said 'Yes'. Sanchez is expected back around January 10, that is before Arsenal visit Anfield to play Liverpool.
The Arsenal boss lastly talked about Tomas Rosicky who had been out for long. According to him, the Czech Republic midfielder will be back in full training in the next three weeks if all goes well.
Cazorla? Coquelin? Well, we will have to wait a bit longer as they are scheduled to return around March except a miracle happens to make the duo show up before the specified time.
Happy Boxing day to you all. Keep enjoying the yuletide and we hope Arsenal box a nice gift for us at the end of tonight's game.
