Official Bid Made By Arsenal For Best Player of Euro Tournament.

The Metro have revealed that Arsenal have made a bid to sign William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon. The bid is believed to be one in the region of £20million.

Now that Arsenal have abandoned their interest in Arturo Vidal of Juventus, they have turned their attention to the Portuguese midfielder.

The report from the Metro has it that Arsene Wenger made a bid last month and is following up with subsequent contacts with the player's club and agent. The 23-year-old will become a Gunner in the coming weeks if a deal is struck between the two parties. The Daily Mail also stated that a transfer for Carvalho is imminent.

Arsenal have lost one of their most sought after players, Morgan Schneiderlin of Southampton to Manchester United which is the reason why Arsene Wenger has taken his pursuit of Carvalho more serious. The star will help spice up the Arsenal midfield should the transfer become successful.

Portugal faced Sweden in the final of the U21 European Championship today and were quite unfortunate to have lost on penalties. Carvalho missed a decisive spot kick but still went on to be named the Best Player of the Tournament. He was also Man of the Match in two of Portugal's five games in the competition.
