Arsene Wenger is still in the market for world class players and at the same time, he is doing all he can to tie down the ones currently at the club. We have seen a couple of contract renewals in the last few weeks and now, another has been activated.
Olivier Giroud after previously agreeing to sign a new contract at Arsenal has finally put pen to paper and got himself a three-year contract which will expire in 2018.
According to some insider sources, the 28-year-old will now earn himself about €186 000-a-week [£130 000], which will make him one of the highest paid players at Arsenal.
Giroud despite being the club's top scorer in the Premier League last season is still being regarded as unsuitable by some fans and ex-players like Thierry Henry. Wenger also is aware he needs to make his attack a bit deadly which is why he is hunting for a new striker who will create a tense competition upfront.
The 65-year-old revealed that he will still bring in another quality striker if he finds any available one as the club is now in a good position financially.
“We now have the stability that gives us strength. Before I was more exposed to ‘Who will go?’ and now the question I get more is ‘Who will come?” the Gunners boss told theTelegraph.
“The transfer market is not over. We can still buy but I don’t think we will sell. Our potential on the market has changed.”
Giroud was on target for the Gunners in the Emirates Cup against Lyon today. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alex Iwobi, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla were others who ensured Arsenal finished that game with a 6-0 scoreline.
Arsenal now have nine points from one game and would face Wolfsburg in their final game tomorrow. Elsewhere, Villarreal beat Wolfsburg 2-1 so ahead of tomorrow's games, this is how the table looks:
Emirates Cup 2015 Table
Arsenal 9
Villarreal 5
Wolfsburg 1
Lyon 0
