Arsenal striker, Olivier Giroud has stated the reason behind the celebration he made after doubling his side's lead against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Santi Cazorla opened scoring via a penalty kick in the first half before Giroud made it 2-0 in the Gunners' favour shortly before halftime. That goal was the Frenchman's 50th goal as an Arsenal player and when he scored it, he pointed to the sky and signed the letter 'j' with his hands.
The 28-year-old in his post-match interview explained why he made his jubilation in such manner. He also talked about his most recently achieved feat.
“I’m really pleased with my statistics and I try to help the team as much as I can to win the games,” the striker told Arsenal Player. “I feel really good with my body and the games.
“I knew that Johanna, a young girl who I knew from the south of France that I visited at hospital a few months ago.
“She passed away so I was really affected by that and that’s why I wanted to pay a homage to her, her family and her parents.
“It was a crazy end to the game and we were a bit lucky but I think we deserved the win. It could’ve been frustrating if we didn’t come back with the three points so I think we need to be cautious and more focused at the end of the game."
