Alexis Sanchez once said that he hates being left out of games or being subbed. If we could still remember, he insisted on playing when our manager wanted to give him a rest against Hull City in the FA Cup third round and his resistance paid off as he scored one and assisted one in that crucial encounter. He is a player who wants to be involved all the time and it was quite a pity that he missed out of Sunday's game.
Arsenal trashed Aston Villa 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium yesterday with Olivier Giroud, Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla and Hector Bellerin all contributing goals to make this possible. Sanchez whose absence was not felt as a result of the manner in which the win came took to Twitter after the match to congratulate the team for their victory but was unhappy for not being able to feature.
Alexis posted: "Happy for the great win of the Team … sad for not being at the field…"
He missed out all because of a hamstring injury which he is currently battling with. His exclusion was more of a precaution. The issue he has isn't a serious one but the manager just decided to play safe this time around. We have seen cases where Arsene Wenger fielded players who were not fully fit and only ended up lengthening our injury list. It would have been unwise to play the Chilean international and end up worsening his case. We have got a lot of players available so his inclusion would have been an unecessary gamble.
Sanchez should be available by the time Arsenal face Tottenham Hotspur in the North-London derby on Saturday.
