DEAL DONE: £11.2million Fee Agreed. Star Set for Medical.

Information coming in from some reliable sources in Spain have it that Arsenal have agreed a deal worth £11.2million for the signing of Gabriel Paulista. The Brazillian is expected to travel down to London today to have his medical.

The club were able to agree a fee below his initial asking price of £15million and the Brazillian defender will earn up to £80 000 per week after he must have signed a four and a half year contract with Arsenal.

A Spanish journalist, Kike Marin posted on twitter:

Acuerdo entre #Arsenaly #Villarreal para el traspaso de Gabriel. Alrededor de 18 millones de €. El central podría estar viajando a Londres.

This roughly translates to: "18million euro deal being agreed between the two clubs and Gabriel being expected in London soon."

Arsene Wenger revealed last week that talks were on with Villarreal with the only problem being how to secure a work permit for Paulista but vowed to do all to see that transfer go through. He made another statement concerning the transfer after Arsenal's win over Brighton and Hove in the FA Cup on Sunday.

"Paulista is a central defender but he can also play on the flanks", Wenger said.

"He is tall and pacy. He has a good chance to adapt to English football. I see good potential in him.

"The deal could be done before the FA Cup draw [on Monday]."

Villarreal's manager also confirmed interest from Arsenal. He said: “If both Gabriel and the club believe that sale to Arsenal is what is best for everyone, we accept it.

As part of the deal, Joel Campbell will be going on loan to Villarreal till the end of the season. The Costa Rican star had not been able to seal a place in the Arsenal first team and to enable him keep fit and gain more experience, a loan move has been considered an option.

Paulista will have to contend with Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker at centre-back. He is a classy defender and I see him making an immediate impact at Arsenal. What do you think?
